Laurel Colborn
Director of Academics, AP Research, Government, Law & SocietyBiography
A lifelong resident of Ventura County, Mrs. Colborn received her undergraduate degree in history from UC Santa Barbara. Thereafter, she entered Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles earning her juris doctor degree. She passed the California State Bar Exam and joined the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office before leaving to practice civil litigation in Santa Barbara. Her passion for history led her to OVS in 1998 where she began her teaching career. She has taught AP U.S. History and U.S. History. She is currently teaching AP Research, Government, and Law & Society. Mrs. Colborn serves as the Director of Academics for the Upper Campus. As such, she is the first point of contact for new students navigating the academic side of the high school program. Mrs. Colborn also plays a central role in developing new curriculum, mentoring students and teachers, and coordinating the school’s accreditation through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS). Among her interests are camping, reading, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Colborn resides in Upper Ojai with her husband, Doug. Their three children, Nolan, Avery and Parker, are all alumni of the Lower and Upper campuses.
