Biography

Ms. Belgum leads the Animal Science and Barnyard program for students in grades PK-3 and in 2025-26 will also teach a new Land & Climate curriculum for students in grades 4-5. Her interest in animals, horses especially, started when her grandfather brought her to see his racehorses at the age of 4. Since then she has had a variety of riding experience. She rode at Shadow Hills Riding School for twelve years competing in hunter jumpers and eventing. At age 14 she bought her first horse, Stella. Ms. Belgum attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where earned a degree in Animal Science with a minor in Equine Studies. She was a part of the thoroughbred enterprise at Cal Poly, which is responsible for breeding and selling the thoroughbred race horses at the college. At Cal Poly, Ms. Belgum learned to ride Western cutting horses and how to perform many veterinary procedures. After graduating in 2012 she worked for a rehabilitation and sports medicine facility, using underwater treadmills to help injured sport horses. She grew up in a small beach town, Cayucos, located on the central coast of California. Her interests outside of horses include hiking, camping, gardening, and spending time with her young daughters, Bridget and Ava.
