Laurel Colborn - Faculty and Staff Directory

A lifelong resident of Ventura County, Mrs. Colborn received her undergraduate degree in history from UC Santa Barbara. Thereafter, she entered Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles earning her juris doctor degree. She passed the California State Bar Exam and joined the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office before leaving to practice civil litigation in Santa Barbara. Her passion for history led her to OVS in 1998 where she began her teaching career. She has taught AP U.S. History, U.S. History, AP Research, Government, and Law & Society, and served for many years as a member of the administrative team. For the 2026-27 school year, Mrs. Colborn is stepping into a part-time role as Academic Advisor, supporting the Dean of Academics and more generally the academic program at the high school. She remains the first point of contact for new students navigating the academic side of the high school program and will continue to play a central role in developing new curriculum and coordinating the school’s accreditation through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS). Among her interests are camping, reading, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Colborn resides in Upper Ojai with her husband, Doug. Their three children, Nolan, Avery and Parker, are all alumni of the Lower and Upper campuses.
