Mr. Inman, Mr. Wallace, Mrs. Usher, and Mr. Gartrell led 27 students through an adventurous program at the OVS Ropes Course. Sixth graders (aka sixers), seventh graders (aka sevies), and eighth graders (aka ochos) began the day with a bus ride through the orange orchards of Ojai’s East End en route to the Upper Campus. A welcoming talk, orientation, and goal setting led to several rounds of games such as “Monarch Ball” and “Giants, Wizards, Elves!”
Groups were formed and teams of students rotated through the “Low Multi-Vine,” “Give and Take,” and the “Obstacle Wall.” Participants were thrilled to learn that their outstanding teamwork and planning helped them become the first group of Lower Campus students to ever scale the wall.
After sack lunches and a chance to relax under the oak trees, four high elements were opened and students moved through stations belaying the “Boardwalk,” Pirate’s Crossing,” “Two-Line Traverse,” and the “High Multi-Vine.” Students felt empowered to push their personal boundaries when we discussed “Challenge by Choice,” and the sixth grade girls demonstrated their character and athleticism by completing the 40-foot high elements forwards, backwards, and even blindfolded!
The day concluded with a walking tour of the Upper Campus academic buildings, chapel, amphitheater, and the new solar panel array.
