The cross country team ran their first league meet of the season with a bang last Wednesday at Dunn School, with the girls continuing their winning streak from last year’s championship season.
For the girls, senior Avery Colborn (L16) won the race for the first time in her cross country career. With hard work and dedication, Avery ran her heart out and that showed in this race. Following her was junior Bella Slosberg (L17) coming in second and senior Angela Qu placing fifth.
“The girls did exactly what I thought they would — they’ve been working hard and on Wednesday we saw the fruits of that labor,” coach Fred Alvarez said. “And I’m especially happy for Avery. It’s a big deal to win a cross country meet, and it was a highlight for me to see Avery take that win.”
Following his success from last week, junior Gabe Weisiger (L17) was the top runner for the boy’s race, placing eleventh overall. Senior Corbin Muller and junior Ethan Gao (L17) also showed strong performances.
This week, the team has back-to-back meets, starting with a friendly race at Cate School on Wednesday and a non-league meet with the Omega League on Thursday in Santa Clarita.
