Mike MahonAssistant Head of School, Middle School Coordinator
Raised in the greater Boston area and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Mike came to OVS as a computer teacher in 2002. He has developed a unique project-based curriculum for his students that encourages exploration, experimentation, and the development of problem-solving strategies. Always on the lookout for ways to involve students in new forms of technology, Mike leads an audio visual club that designs and produces sound, lighting, and occasionally robotic effects for drama productions and weekly All-School meetings. Mike also leads a student-based IT crew that helps troubleshoot technology on campus.
An avid backpacker, surfer, and sailor he is an active member of the Outdoor Education program and credits the school trips as the perfect balance to his technology curriculum. Mike feels that spending one week working with students on a fast paced technology project and then the next week in a small self-sufficient group hiking pristine back-country canyons gives him and his students a unique perspective that few people have the opportunity to experience.
