Laurel ColbornAssistant Head of School – Academic Affairs; History
A lifelong resident of Ventura County, Laurel received her undergraduate degree in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Thereafter, she entered Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles earning her juris doctor degree. Laurel passed the California State Bar Exam and joined the Ventura County District Attorney Office before leaving to practice civil litigation in Santa Barbara. Her passion for history led her to OVS in 1998 where she began her teaching career.
In addition to AP U.S. History, Laurel also teaches Government and Law & Society. Laurel serves as the Assistant Head of School for academics. She is often the first point of contact for new students navigating the academic side of the high school program, developing curriculum, mentoring students and teachers, and coordinating the school’s accreditation through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and California Association of Independent Schools.
Among her interests are camping at the lake, reading, riding motorcycles in the desert, and spending time with her family. Laurel resides in Upper Ojai with her husband, Doug, and their children, Nolan and Avery. Their eldest son, Parker, is an alumnus of the Lower and Upper Campus.
