At OVS, technology is integrated daily into student life both inside and outside of the classroom. Most high school students, grades 9-12, bring their own laptop computers and enjoy campus-wide wireless Internet access. The wireless network allows high school students to conduct research and collaborative projects from their dorm rooms as well as the library and outdoor areas. Middle school students, grades 6-7, are provided a Chromebook for school use. Eighth-graders are encouraged to bring their own laptops.
On both campuses, classrooms feature a variety of technological resources, including inter-active white boards, projectors, education-related software tools, and computer labs. The school supports all modern operating systems. The use of electronic information resources is a privilege and intended for educational purposes, such as Internet research for class assignments. Resident students can also use their own computers, cell phones or iPads in the dorms to keep in contact with friends and family via email and Skype, with some restrictions.
In order for students to have access to these resources, they must first agree to adhere to the Technology Acceptable Use Pledge 2018-19. While on the computer network, as well as when accessing the Internet, network users are monitored. New students arriving at OVS with their own computers must have virus software installed and the factory installation discs with them. We also recommend extended warranty as our Technology Department can offer only limited hardware support.
