Weekends are time for OVS students to rest from their full schedules, participate in sports contests, and explore the rich cultural and recreational opportunities in Southern California. Students routinely venture to downtown Ojai or Santa Barbara. They also enjoy trips to Los Angeles to catch a Dodgers game or visit the Getty Museum, as well as local excursions for ice skating, bowling, and surf trips.
Many students enjoy spending at least part of their weekends closer to home by relaxing in their dorm rooms or alongside the school pool, shopping at the Ojai’s Farmers’ Market, sitting at a sidewalk cafe table at the Ojai frozen yogurt shop, or watching movies in the common room with friends. Weekends are a great time to focus on relaxation and fun, as well as learning the value of cooperation, friendship, and community. Here are a few examples of weekend activities:
- Trips to downtown Ojai
- Dining at local restaurants
- Attending dramatic or musical performances
- School dances and socials
- Surf and beach trips
- Movies
- Outdoor adventures, like mountain biking and rock climbing
- Cultural trips to Santa Barbara and Los Angeles
- Attending sporting events
- Visiting amusement parks
