May 15, 2020
Dear OVS Alumni,
With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to evolve unpredictably — and out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our alumni, faculty, and the broader Ojai community — we have made the difficult decision to cancel Alumni Weekend 2020.
We have held off on making this announcement. We had hoped the current restrictions might be lifted so that we could at least host a small gathering of alumni on campus this summer.
But when the County of Ventura last week extended the current stay-at-home order to May 31, we knew the likelihood of hosting any get-together was unlikely and unwise. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many events around the world to be cancelled or postponed, including large music festivals, small county fairs and the 2020 Summer Olympics.
It takes something truly momentous to interrupt our decades-old tradition of Alumni Weekend. We look forward to seeing our OVS alumni return to campus when next we can safely gather to spend time together, share their memories, and reconnect with beloved former teachers and friends. We feel strongly that the most prudent course of action right now is to comply with the safety measures in place, encourage everyone to stay home, and allow more time for the situation to stabilize. We thank you for understanding.
That said, our work has already begun in planning for next year’s Alumni Weekend at Upper Campus, which will include the dedication of our new buildings now under construction in June 11-13, 2021. So mark your calendars! We hope to see you there.
Be well and stay safe!
