The arts curriculum at OVS offers classes for beginning to advanced artists and musicians. Courses include drawing, guitar, theater, dance, music theory and composition, music history, voice, ceramics, photography, video production, piano, and various Advanced Placement art courses. All students must complete one full year of fine arts to graduate, and for those serious about pursuing art degrees OVS offers a pathway that can lead to some of the finest art schools in the country. Past graduates have attended Rhode Island School of Design, California Institute of the Arts, Pratt Institute, Otis College of Art and Design, The Savannah College of Art and Design, and many others. Beyond the classroom, OVS students also have the opportunity to participate in art exhibits and work with local artists or guest instructors.
Ojai is known throughout the world as a Mecca for artists and musicians, and performing arts are also part of the program and culture at OVS. Students can sing in the chorus, learn improvisation in theater, practice hip-hop and choreograph numbers for the talent show, and learn the academic side of music in classes such as Music Theory and Foundations of Voice. Musical performances and dramatic productions are presented each year in our beautiful outdoor amphitheater and at our performing arts center at our Lower Campus.
