The High School features a six-day rotating block schedule with time allotted for academics, advisory meetings, electives and sports. Academic classes meet most frequently for 55-minute classes, but also 85-minute classes to promote deeper connections and allow time for labs and extended activities. The rotation of blocks also enables the same class to occur at different times of the day, so for example, math does not always take place last thing in the afternoon but instead has a mix of times throughout the week.
The six-day schedule (which, don’t worry, does not include Saturdays) was launched after feedback from teachers who sought to incorporate the elective program into the academic day and for college credit. Courses including Robotics, Drama, Guitar and Yearbook are now part of the rotating schedule and offered for credit. The schedules below are recent examples of what an OVS student could expect at various grade levels.
