English 9

English 9 is a writing class. Throughout the year we will explore a wide range of writing topics beginning with the personal and moving towards the analytical. The workshop approach focuses on drafting, editing and revising. Grammar and punctuation skills will be developed. Reading comprehension is a priority. Regular vocabulary assignments and weekly quizzes bolster confidence in the English language. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking skills necessary to understand the structure and content. Study skills such as time management, organization, memorization, listening, speaking and note-taking will be covered. By the end of the year, students will have produced a body of written work that measures their growth as readers, writers and thinkers.

The reading list: Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
