AP Biology
AP Biology is an introductory college-level course in modern biology. Topics covered include molecular biology, cell structure and function, cellular respiration and photosynthesis, genetics, population biology, ecology, plant structure and function, animal structure and function and an overview of the diversity of life. The major paradigm is the theory of evolution. Emphasis is placed on evidence both observational and experimental as well as the interpretations associated with those activities. Lecture/discussions and labs are the format of the course with labs composing 40% of course time. Students are expected to participate in class discussions, work together in labs, keep a lab notebook for all lab work, do reading assignments over major vacations and do in-class presentations on various topics. The AP Exam is taken in May and every effort will be made to prepare the students for this very difficult and challenging exam.
